Perm activist Alexey Ogloblin said that after verification, he was left with 159 valid signatures. At least 165 are required to register as a candidate for the City Duma.
“We expected this. Both my team and I knew how the system worked when we decided to run in the election. We will appeal the decision. There are plenty of grounds to do so,” Ogloblin wrote.
Earlier, the election commission reviewed 181 signatures collected in support of Ogloblin and was unable to verify the information provided by 19 signatories. Those signatures were sent to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for additional verification. The candidate's representatives were not allowed to observe the automated verification of the signature sheets.
Alexey Ogloblin is a Perm-based activist and human rights defender who regularly takes the Perm city administration and police to court. In June, he launched a campaign to return authority over urban planning and land relations to the municipality. He later announced his intention to run in the City Duma election.
