Acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein has pledged to allocate 65 million rubles to cover the debt for meals at the Olimpiets temporary shelter. The company responsible for providing meals to the refugees refused to continue its services after February 1. Refugee Valery Moiseyev reported this on January 31, but the Committee for Regional Security dismissed the claim as false. In response, Moiseyev published confirmation from the shelter’s director.
Following complaints from refugees, Acting Governor of Kursk Oblast Alexander Khinshtein visited the temporary shelter at the Olimpiets sports complex. The refugees informed him that food services would cease after February 1 due to the 65-million-ruble debt. While the Committee for Regional Security denied these claims, the shelter’s director later confirmed them. Khinshtein then promised to allocate funds to settle the debt on January 31.
"Regional government officials assured me that everything was under control," Khinshtein wrote. He ensured that refugees received meals on January 31 and vowed to make "personnel decisions."
The company providing meals to the refugees terminated its contract with the shelter on January 31. Authorities owed 24 million rubles for feeding Kursk Oblast refugees and another 41 million rubles for accommodating refugees from the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, according to activist Valery Moiseyev.
Since August 6, refugees from Kursk Oblast have been living in temporary shelters or rented apartments. They complain that authorities have not provided them with housing vouchers.
